Welcome, my name is Darla Marx and I am an author/screenwriter residing in the suburbs of Houston Texas. I began my journalism career in East Texas as a photographer for the Panola County Post. In the early years when I wasn’t shooting Friday night football games I was in the darkroom developing large sheets of film which would later be stripped by hand while standing over a light table and then processed by burning the image onto a massive metal plate with coating on one side. Nothing was done on the computer back in the early 1980’s in the newspaper industry which made for some very long days.

As long as I can remember I have been interested in the entertainment industry. Theatre, film or the literary aspect of creating an imaginary story that could be brought to life on the big screen, now that was my secret passion. But, when you’re busy with life most of the time there is no room for passion. It wasn’t until my late 40’s, after I sent my daughter off to college that I got reacquainted with my dreams and aspirations of making a living by doing what I thought I would love. That is the key to a successful career as well as a successful business and come to find out, I did love it.

I wrote and self-published my first book ‘Rhythm’s Fate’ in the fall of 2009. I followed with the first edition of ‘I’ve Got My Big Girl Panties On’ in 2010. In April of this year I was approached by Tate Publishing who has now re-released the same title in second edition. In May of 2013 I teamed with fellow author Robert Coward to co-create a screenplay adaptation of his novel, ‘The Keeper’s Dare’. Last month Robert and I signed an option agreement with Gibraltar Pacific Production Inc for the movie rights to the screenplay.

Giving back is a big deal to me so I am active in promoting the warning signs of acute aortic dissection, by raising public awareness through The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health. The JRRP is working towards preventing premature death due to acute aortic dissection, by raising public awareness through “Ritter Rules”, and engaging in ongoing research on the genetic basis of aortic disease. These days, I travel the globe as an expeditor in the oil and gas industry while working on my 3rd novel. Robert and I continue our writing collaboration and have an action comedy script in the works titled, ‘The Cleaning Lady’. Every now and then, I pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming and remind myself every day that I am starting out in life instead of ending up.
